A less common type of myomectomy which combines standard surgical techniques and a laparoscope may be done for larger fibroids on the surface of the uterus. The surgeon will make a mini-laparotomy incision (3 inches or less) for fibroid removal while using a laparoscopy to guide the surgery. With the incision giving better access to the uterus, the surgeon is better able to repair the uterus than with laparoscopy alone. This procedure will require a longer recovery period than regular laparoscopic surgery due to the incision.
