Homeopathic and Holistic Treatments for Uterine Fibroids

The cause of uterine fibroids is unknown, but there are some factors recognized as contributing to their growth. One such factor is hormonal imbalances resulting in the over production of estrogen- whose basic function is to initiate cell growth. Many Scientists believe that estrogen stimulates fibroid growth (3).

Another factor is genetics or Family history. Research shows considerable pattern of experiences between mothers, daughters and sisters of similar cases of uterine fibroids. This leads to the theory that some women have more estrogen receptors in their uterine tissue, which may make them more susceptible to the effects of estrogen dominance. [3]

Traditional medicine offers surgical treatments for removing fibroids. Among these surgical options includes the non-invasive Focused Ultrasound Surgery using MR guidance.

Homeopathic and Holistic Approach for Uterine Fibroids

There are several Homeopathic and Holistic approaches for treating uterine fibroids.

Eating Habits
Dietary guidelines for women suffering from fibroids focuses on low estrogen.[4] A poor diet can increase estrogen levels and prohibit the body’s ability to break down and secrete excess estrogen.(8)

Reducing fat intake and increasing fiber intake will lower estrogen production which may help stop fibroid growth.[8]

Foods to eliminate from your diet:
 Dairy products
 Saturated fats from meats
 Alcohol
 Sugar - which elevates estrogen in the body

Recommended foods include:
 Green vegetables such as: spinach, kale and broccoli.
 Whole grains such as: buckwheat, oats, millet and brown rice. [4][5][9]

Sitz Baths
Alternating hot and cold sitz baths is said to help enhance blood flow to the uterus. This may help improve circulation and reduce fibroid growth. [10]

Body relaxation exercises such as: Massages, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, etc. can help increase the blood flow to the pelvic region which may reduce the size of fibroids. [8]

Aromatherapy Massage for Uterine Fibroids
10 drops of ginger oil
10 drops of rose essential oil
2 ounces almond oil
½ tsp vitamin E oil
 Pour oils in a tinted-glass bottle. Store in a cool, dark place and shake well before using. Use as a massage oil for abdomen and lower back massages. [10]

Acupuncture that focuses on specific points may help alleviate symptoms of uterine fibroids such as cramps, pain, fatigue, heavy bleeding and is said to also help “combat” fibroid growth. [8]

Before you begin any uterine fibroid treatment it is important to talk to your doctor. Although there are a variety of alternative treatments available for uterine fibroids, they are not clinically proven to remove fibroids from the uterus.
